December 24 – Advent 4 Worship Focus

When Gabriel is sent by God, the annunciation does not come to any of the seats of power in the world of the first century, but to a young girl named Mary. Nobody, least of all Mary, anticipated that this was the way that God’s promises would be fulfilled. And yet, God came, with the angel’s words: ‘For nothing will be impossible with God.’

What might it mean to hope afresh in a God who shows up in the least expected of places, in seemingly impossible ways? What might it mean this Christmas to hope in a God who comes as light in the midst of darkness, as peace into a troubled world?
