Communication Committee

Background

One of the silver linings that developed at Bethel out of the dark cloud of Covid was our desire to improve communication within our Bethel Family. Early on, it became obvious that Bethel had no way of effectively and quickly communicating with our members who had become physically separated. This led to the weekly Bethel Communications mass emails….a brand-new way of communicating for us.

By the fall of 2020, following feedback from a survey and conversations with many interested members, we began to envision what communications at Bethel could look like. These conversations were inspired by seeing a future at Bethel where we are all better connected with each other and fully engaged in the work of the Church, at Bethel and beyond.

All of this led to the formation of a Communications Committee and the development of a detailed communications plan. This plan was approved by Church Council in June, 2021.

Communications Plan

Inspiration for the communications plan came from Bethel’s overall vision statement “Loving God, Each Other and Our Neighbours”. Going forward, this vision will influence what we communicate and to whom.

Our vision expands our definition of the Bethel Family to include our members, those who occupy our building during the week, those who are directly impacted by the work we do and, those that are seeking a new spiritual home.

Our communications platforms will be varied depending on the situation but will primarily involve our website, the E-newsletter, Facebook and Instagram.

Governance

Membership of the committee consists of two members at large (one of which will be the Chair), a Pastoral Team member, the Website Administrator, the Content Editor, and the Branding Manager.

The committee reports directly to the Church Council via the Chair of the committee who is also a member of the Council.

The roles and responsibilities of the Committee, along with the other groups directly involved with the communication process, are clearly defined and can be found by clicking below.
